Comparison
Thriving Kids vs the NDIS
It's easy to get these two mixed up. Here's a simple comparison for Victorian families, using current published guidance.
Are they the same thing?
No, they're two different approaches. The NDIS is an existing scheme with individualised funding. Thriving Kids is planned to offer earlier support through everyday health, education and community services.
Is Thriving Kids replacing the NDIS?
The short answer is no, not for everyone. Current government messaging says the NDIS continues, particularly for children with high or complex support needs. Thriving Kids is intended to offer earlier help for children who may not need an individualised plan.
If my child already has NDIS supports
If your child already receives NDIS support, keep following their current arrangements and official advice unless a specific change is announced. Talk with your planner, coordinator or provider before changing supports. You don't need to make decisions based on a headline alone.
What is still unclear
We're still waiting for more detail about moving between the two systems and how Victorian services will be funded and organised locally. It's okay to have questions. Keep checking official information as those details become clearer.
Who we're not?
We are not a government website, and we are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the Australian Government or any government department or agency.
